NEACH Releases White Paper, The New Role of Operations: Exploring Channels, Talent, Innovation, Collaboration, and Risk in a Complex World

Burlington, Mass., October 26, 2021 – Today, the New England Automated Clearing House (NEACH) announced the availability of a white paper defining the new role of operations in a world impacted by a global pandemic. The New Role of Operations: Exploring Channels, Talent, Innovation, Collaboration, and Risk in a Complex World identifies the challenges facing operations today, highlights new opportunities, and provides specific actions for financial institutions as they navigate the “new normal.”

The disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated shifts in operations already underway,” says NEACH Executive Vice President Joe Casali. “Almost overnight, operations went from a tactical, task-oriented focus to a strategic framework that broke down silos and extended into every aspect of a financial institution’s business and functions. This white paper offers a resource for financial institutions and stakeholders to dive deeper into the challenges and opportunities, charting a course for the future.

The New Role of Operations Workgroup, convened by NEACH and tasked with taking a deep dive into today’s complex operations world, consists of financial institution professionals across the New England financial sector. Their collective perspectives and experience, augmented by industry research, shaped the content and conclusions reflected in the paper. Findings and recommendations demonstrate how operations teams that combine cutting-edge technology solutions with strategic human resources and collaboration across the organization can position financial institutions for success now and into the future.

Released ahead of NEACH’s Future of Payments Symposium 2021, the paper aligns with key session themes, including a keynote address from Workgroup participants - Lessons Learned from the New Role of Operations White Paper, and the breakout session, Looking Back to Move Forward.

Modern operations is full of challenges and opportunities, especially regarding payment channels,” notes Casali. “The New Role of Operations Workgroup explored this change and established recommendations a financial institution can use as a road map.
